From the Assistant Principals |
As we wrap up the first few weeks of school, things are busy across campus! Our students are currently participating in assessments, which help us monitor progress and plan instruction to meet their needs. It is hard to believe that we are already nearly halfway through the first quarter.
In August, our focus was Resilience, and students are learning the importance of persevering through challenges, adapting to change, and continuing to grow when things get difficult. We are also excited to kick off our first PBIS school-wide activity, celebrating positive behaviors and building a strong, supportive school community.
In addition, student organizations, athletics, tutoring opportunities, and extracurricular activities are all getting underway. This is one of the busiest and most exciting times of the year as students become involved, make connections, and discover new opportunities for success. Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to a fantastic first quarter!

At FSDB, we are proud to provide every student with free, nutritious meals each school day. This is one of the many ways we care for our students and support their well-being.
We are reaching out to ask for your help with something that makes a big difference for our school community. This funding helps us continue to offer healthy options and expand the resources available to all our students.

Students recently took part in a Vocabulary Gallery Walk, where they added definitions, sentences, illustrations, and helpful clues to vocabulary words. This collaborative activity gave students multiple ways to learn new words while sharing their creativity and ideas with classmates. |
Students recently had the opportunity to explore the wood-turning machine, also known as a lathe, in the woodshop. This exciting tool allows a block of wood to spin while being shaped into cylindrical objects such as baseball bats, table legs, bowling pins, and more. Through creativity and hands-on learning, students are developing woodworking skills while discovering the many possibilities of turning a simple piece of wood into something extraordinary.

No Ordinary Hero: The SuperDeafy Movie tells the story of a Deaf actor who plays a superhero on television and inspires a young Deaf boy to believe in himself. The film celebrates Deaf identity, American Sign Language (ASL), self-confidence, and belonging. |

Creating an inclusive home doesn't have to be complicated. Simple, everyday moments can help your Deaf or Hard of Hearing teen feel connected, valued, and supported. Try these family-friendly activities: 📺 Turn on captions during family movie nights. 🤟 Learn a new sign together each week and practice it at home. 🎲 Play visual games like Charades, Pictionary, or Escape Room-style puzzles. 🍽️ Make mealtimes conversation-friendly by taking turns and ensuring everyone can see each other's faces. 📚 Read books or watch videos featuring Deaf role models and Deaf culture. 📱 Create a family group chat to stay connected and share updates. 🎉 Attend Deaf community events, performances, or school activities together. Help others be inclusive, too: Share simple communication tips with relatives, friends, coaches, and neighbors. Encourage people to face your teen when speaking and gain their attention before starting a conversation. Model inclusive communication and advocate for accessibility in community activities. When you promote inclusion, connection, and awareness at home and in the community, you help build confidence, strengthen relationships, and support your teen's overall well-being. Every effort, big or small, helps create a sense of belonging. |
Our seniors recently participated in Senior Sunrise, a special FSDB tradition that marks the beginning of their final year. Gathering together to watch the sunrise, students took time to connect with classmates, reflect on how far they have come, and look ahead to the opportunities and milestones that await them this year.
This memorable event served as a reminder that senior year is more than a countdown to graduation. It is a time to celebrate friendships, embrace new experiences, and make lasting memories. We are excited to watch the Class of 2027 shine as they make the most of their final year at FSDB! |
